Why read it

For the reader who wants a dizzying adventure with real depth, and who does not mind being baffled before the book explains itself. It is best read without knowing the ending. Chesterton turns the vertigo of modern doubt into an invitation to gratitude and courage.

Summary

Gabriel Syme, poet and policeman, infiltrates the secret council of the anarchists of Europe, whose seven members are named after the days of the week. What begins as a spy novel becomes an ever stranger chase, until the president, Sunday, and the meaning of the whole tangle come to light. It is a nightmare that turns out to be a parable about order, evil and suffering.
