Why read it

For anyone who wants a love story that is earned slowly, with wit and nothing unseemly. It teaches, with a smile, how costly it is to judge people by appearances, and how good it is to correct yourself in time. It reads in a restful afternoon and rewards a second reading years later.

Summary

Lively, independent Elizabeth Bennet and the reserved Mr. Darcy get off to a bad start: he slights her, and she quickly makes up her mind about him. Through balls, letters and visits in the English countryside, each has to admit being wrong. Jane Austen's best-loved novel, with a fine irony and an unforgettable family.

Quotes

It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune must be in want of a wife.
I could easily forgive his pride, if he had not mortified mine.
Till this moment, I never knew myself.
There is a stubbornness about me that never can bear to be frightened at the will of others.
I declare, after all, there is no enjoyment like reading!
