Why read it

This is the novel for anyone who thinks their chance has passed. Anne shows patient fidelity and the courage to say at last what one feels. Its tone, calmer than in Austen's other works, makes it especially fitting for adult readers.

Summary

As a very young woman Anne Elliot refused Captain Wentworth's proposal, swayed by the advice of a family friend. Eight years later he returns from the naval wars, rich and renowned. Jane Austen's last completed novel: a quiet, mature story about second chances.

Quotes

All the privilege I claim for my own sex (it is not a very enviable one; you need not covet it), is that of loving longest, when existence or when hope is gone.
You pierce my soul. I am half agony, half hope.
there could have been no two hearts so open, no tastes so similar, no feelings so in unison, no countenances so beloved.
